How did he get the name Vishnu maya?

  1. After being told by narad muni about who his real parents were, chathan decided to go to Kailash on his buffalo which was given by bhagwaan shiva after chathan’s birth. On his way to Kailash he realized that nandi(known Nandikeshwara in south india) would not allow him to enter Kailash In his present form so he took the form of bhagwaan Vishnu my maya(godly magic). On learning this bhagwaan shiva blessed him with name vishnu maya as he took for of bhagwaan Vishnu by maya(godly magic).
  • Another story is koolivaka at the time of birth of her child felt acute pain and she prayed to god Vishnu for help and relief from pain. Answering her prayers she gave birth to chathan also know as vishnumaya as he was born in maya of maha Vishnu.

Story of Vishnu maya

“Vishnumaya is easily pleased and humane” are the words of Devotees.

Peringottukara Sree Vishnumaya. During divine wandering Lord Shiva happens saw Koolivaka, a tribal woman. She was a devotee of Goddess Parvathy(parvati). “In the previous-birth, Koolivaka tried to suckle Ganapathy(god ganesha). Now she gets a chance to foster Siva’s son” Shiva asked Koolivaka to be ready to be his son’s mother. Koolivaka was a devotee of Parvathy. Knowing her dilemma, Parvathy took the form of Koolivaka and welcomed Shiva. Shiva and disguised Koolivaka united for the birth of a cute child chathan. Shiva and Parvathy appeared in front of Koolivaka and gave her responsibility to foster the child. After living with Koolivaka for some years chathan was mature enough to know the detail of his actual parents. Then chathan proceeded to the abode of Siva(kailash) and rode on a cute Buffalo blowing his favourite Eezhara(single wire musical instrument).Where he was not allowed to enter, chathan assumed the form of Vishnu. Thus chathan was also known as ‘Vishnumaya’. When he was with his parents god Vishnumaya killed rakshas Bhringa and Jalandhara. Due to the divine deeds he had done he was invited to be in heaven. Lord Vishnumaya replied “I prefer to live on the earth with the human beings”.
